Name: Rai Sohma
Gender: Male
Age: 19 (December)
Animal: Snake
Description: For someone of entirely Japanese decent, Rai was lucky to inherit some fairly tall genes. In a crowd, he’s likely to tower a few inches above everyone else. This really doesn’t seem to bother him… or perhaps, he just doesn’t notice. On the top of his head, he has extremely thick, straight black hair. It’s a little longer than most guy’s keep their hair, and he tries his best to keep it out of his face, however, this is often futile and he’s rendered nearly blind by his own hair. His skin is a fair ivory, showing his unmistakable heritage. Rai has a slightly long face, with a strong chin and jaw that seem very familiar with smiling. Being a college student, he’s usually seen wearing the black uniform of the university he attends and laden with a few complicated books. Because of an accident during child hood, Rai has poor vision and has to wear a pair of thin, silver-framed glasses. Rai’s eyes are the shape of long ellipses and hazel-gray in color. They are expressive and soft, but show all the torment of the torture one goes through being a cursed Sohma. When he’s not in his school uniform, he’ll wear a black suit for formal occasions, but more often than not he’ll be lounging around in a gray yukata. (as a snake, he partially resembles an Egyptian asp)

Personality: Rai often jokingly refers to himself as a sensitive artist. He doesn’t paint professionally or anything, this actually refers to different type of art. Rai’s favorite pastime has to be writing. You’ll often see him typing away at his laptop spilling out whatever thoughts may be running through his head. He teasingly won’t let anyone read what he’s written unless they swear to secrecy. And even then, we’ll usually just open a completely different file that probably contains a boring essay he had to write for one of his classes. However, if he truly values someone’s opinion, he’ll let then take a look at his latest project. The best of Rai’s writing is published, however, under a secret penname. It’s currently the belief that Rai is a genius, not only when it comes to writing, but playing the piano, martial arts, and even business. He has extremely good business sense and plans to one day open a bookstore once he’s done with college. Rai is a genuinely friendly guy; he gets along well with people, but is a tad eccentric. He’s the type of person who notices when you’ve lost weight, or have gotten your hair cut. He loves to have fun in some of the most bizarre ways, but at the same time can be extremely studious. He’s always quick with a joke, a comeback, or sarcastic comment. He’s terribly honest, but perhaps not as tactful as he should be. Rai is by no means perfect; he possesses a brutal temper, that often comes on quickly and unexpectedly. He’s passionate about everything he does and throws his heart and soul into everything, that may be part of the cause. Rai doesn’t necessarily rebel openly against the head of the Sohma family, but he does despise the Sohma “God”. He often uses every resource and all the cunning he has to go against the Head of the Family as much as he can. Lately, he’s been thinking about moving into Shigure’s old house and perhaps having some of the Sohmas move in with him. He’s got to be planning something.
History: Rai Sohma’s past is in no way a happy one, though he doesn’t know any cursed Sohma that has had an excruciatingly normal or happy past. His mother did not reject him at birth, but was devastated when she was unable to hold her infant son. Not wanting to see his wife so incredibly sad, Rai was given to caretakers within the Sohma family. After all, taking in a cursed Sohma would set you up for life. But it was apparent that all his adoptive parents were interested in was the money. For that reason Rai, even as a child, wanted to give them as little trouble as possible. He was hardly ever home. He spent every day either at school, at the Martial Arts dojo, taking piano lessons, or writing short little stories in the forest on the Sohma estate. He was terribly neglected, and didn’t mind spending all his time away from home… after all, no one seemed to want him. Of course, the Head of the Family only seemed to reinforce this idea. Insisting the Sohma God was really the only person who could possibly love any member of the zodiac, especially the slimy, sneaky snake. As he got older, his foster family seemed to hate him all the more. By then, they were convinced he was too much of a burden. They would tell him that he could either skip a meal or go without one of his lessons. He’d always choose to skip the meal. He dealt with this for years, until one day when he was about sixteen. Something inside of Rai snapped. He was sick of it, sick of it all. He knew he wasn’t nothing, and wouldn’t let anyone tell him otherwise anymore. Thus began his own personal rebellion. He moved away from the Main House and the Sohma estate, telling everyone it was because he was tired of being such a burden on others. Enjoying his humiliation, they let him go. Now he attends college and lives in his own apartment in the city, he works part time at a bookstore, and one day wants to open his own.
Other: He has a few weaknesses, including spunky girls and cold. When the temperature drops, he’s likely to transform into a snake.
IC: Rai had been working all morning and afternoon on his laptop, typing word after word, sentence after sentence of his latest work. Periodically, he’d take a break to have a snack and pound out a few notes on the piano, but it wouldn’t be long before he returned his computer. He didn’t even realize how long he’d been sitting inside until he happened to glance out the window and catch site of the setting sun. It was then he decided he really needed to get out of the house. Throwing on a black jacket over his street clothes, he walked down the nearly empty street. Coming to a dark alley, he heard shouting followed by a scream. Without even hesitating, he ran into the alley, slightly amused by the sight that greeted him. A young woman was beating off to muggers with a purse. However, they quickly overcame her. Charging in, Rai slammed the first man against the alley wall, hitting him square in the jaw with a well-aimed punch. While he was busy, the other mugger came up behind Rai and pushed him toward the woman they were trying to mug. As was with all cursed Sohmas, when they have close contact with a person of the opposite sex, they transform. Rai was no different. A little black and white snake fell to the woman’s feet and she screamed and ran as fast as she could in her red high-heels. The two muggers didn’t stay long either and ran off in the opposite direction. Rai’s little snake head shook irately. Things definitely didn’t go as planned.
(terribly uninspired and not my best work, sorry)
